Raccoon addendum

Here are a couple of shots from 2006 for people who weren't reading my blog then! We lived in Quebec for a year in a rented cottage on a lake, with TONS of wildlife around us. That included a mama raccoon and her babies, who regularly raided my birdfeeders!

Here are a couple of pics from 2006:

  2. They're just so darn cute. I love watching our mama with her new babies each year come through our yard to head for the lake. And, I love that our state respects wildlife and preserves native growth areas for them. In fact, a state road that is having more lanes added to it, has asked to build a "bridge" for wildlife to be able to cross safely...that makes me happy!

    1. You need my dog Tristan to help with your squirrel problem!!! ;) We call him The Tristalator! Although he has slowed down with the killing in his old age.

  4. Now THAT's cute! The nearest we have to racoons in England are coypu, like a cross between a beaver and a rat. Lovely.

  6. We don't have racconos here and from what I hear we don't want them. People say they are pests. You apparently can find lots of good in them.

    1. If you take a few precautions (get a trash can with a locking lid, make your chicken coop predator proof), there's no problem. Sometimes they'll move into an attic. Then you call the wildlife removal service!!

  7. They look harmless enough; cute even. So why are they hounded so much? No Racoons here in France, just greedy politicians and strikers with shotguns.

    1. No good reason for hounding them. If you make your chicken coop predator-proof, you won't have problems. They get into garbage cans in the city, but you can just buy a can with a locking lid and it solves the problem!
